World Machine 2 released
Gather around terrain makers, level designers and everyone interested in machining your own worlds! World Machine 2 has been released, and a free edition is yet again available for everyone to try out with almost each feature of the full version.
World Machine 2 allows you to seamlessly use vector-based drawing tools to manipulate your terrain. Combine the power of infinitely detailed fractals with intutively drawn shapes to define your major terrain features.
The interface is the usual, although some changes have been made. The free also has the full functionality of the full version(s), but the size of the terrain has been yet again cut off to 513×513 pixels. You could create larger ones by stitching bits and pieces (heightfields and alphamasks to be quite precise) in a program such as Photoshop, but not sure how messy that will become. You can’t also use the free version for commercial projects or sellable artwork. But what’s that to limit a hobbyist level designer like me?
Anyone interested in making terrains with various modifiers and filters (erosion, snowtops, terraces, etc.), you shouldn’t miss out on this awesome piece of software. Happy world creating!
