UT3 Patch 2.0 And Titan Pack

Epic Games has been working hard on UT3 lately. They announced a huge patch, which fixes many things the community has yelled about and pleaded for. Epic has also been working on a big expansion, called the Titan Pack, which includes loads of new content.

If I could hug someone right now, it would be the Epic Games team. They are releasing a truckload of fixes, additions, tweaks and fresh new content for Unreal Tournament 3 players, for free to download! It has been over a year since the game was released, and now they’ve taken action to fix things that have always buggered us players to some extent (e.g. the horrid UI system UT3 employs or the lack of client-side demo recording).

Here’s a condensed list of what is included in Patch 2.0:

  • Fixed User Interface (e.g. more options in the settings menu, like it was in previous Unreal Tournaments).
  • Networking perfomance fixes.
  • Enhanced server browser.
  • Steam achievements (yes, you can register your DVD version of UT3 in Steam too!).
  • Significant AI fixes.
  • Client-side demo recording.
  • Midgame map, mutator and gametype voting.

And much more! You can view the full list at BeyondUnreal.

The Titan Pack contains new content, such as new levels (hopefully with loads of new assets for us level designers to use), new gametypes and so on. Below are listed some of them:

  • New Titan mutator (possibly relates to the name of this pack). Allows players to transform to colossal death bringing monsters, with a tactical twist to enhance gameplay on certain levels.
  • Two new gametypes: Greed and Betrayal. Greed is a mix between Capture The Flag and Bombing Run (BR is included in UT2). Betrayal is a bit more complex, where players gather points for teams, and those points can be then stolen by killing a one of your own. Although team gameplay is emphasized, only one player wins.
  • 16 new levels! 6 for Deathmatch, 3 for Capture The Flag, 4 for Warfare and 3 for Vehicle Capture The Flag.
  • A “new” vehicle, the Axon Stealthbender, which has deployables and mines. It is in the present game, but it doesn’t seemingly work. The expansion officially enables it.
  • Two new weapons (Stinger Turret and The Eradicator Cannon), two new deployables (The X-Ray Field and the Link Station) and a new powerup (The Portable Slow Field).

A more throughout preview can be read at BeyondUnreal.

Epic has given a release date for 5th March. This all feels, sounds and looks good.

If you do not have UT3, no worries: get Steam, download and play. Last time I checked, it was downloadable for a mere 20 euros. If you want the whole set filled with Unreal, you can buy a deal pack (which includes Unreal 1 & 2, UT1, UT2004 and UT3) for only 40 euros!

Update: Patch 2.0 And Titan Pack Released!

Finally. The awesomeness has been released, and it sure is good! Remember to first install the patch, then the Titan Pack. Some people have had trouble if they did it the wrong way around.

You can also spread the word some more, or Digg the release, giving further media coverage on the release. Now go and play!
