Is the internet getting old and rugged?

Some of you must’ve heard about this, but I just found it. I just love these scientists, they’ve been researching on a grid system, capable of transmitting information quite a bit faster than the normal connections people use when surfing the net.

At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, “the grid” will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds.

Yeah, I was awestruck by that statement. And I thought I had a speedy connection. I can already imagine real-time FPS matches with hundreds, even thousands of players. Lag-free! And think about file-sharing. Gigs after gigs, in mere seconds.

Of course, the system is still quite young. Oh well, you can always hope.
